Modern classics photography from the F. C. Gundlach Collection

The curator Zdenek Felix, former Director of many years of the Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, has selected for the exhibition at the Langhans Gallery in Prague a set of photographs that reveal the orientation of the Gundlach collection on images of people.

The Gundlach Collection is the basis of the International House of Photography, Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, which opened in October 2003. Originally a fashion photographer and founder of one of the first photo galleries in Germany, Gundlach began assembling his collection more than thirty years ago.

A substantial part of it consists of fashion photographs, including some by Gundlach himself. Other focal points are portraits of well-known people and street photography. The dialogue between photography and other artistic media, particularly painting and cinema, has always interested Gundlach. He is oriented also towards photos that show photography as a medium of intimacy (such as those by Nan Goldin and Wolfgang Tillmans).

The exhibition was held under the patronage of Dr Michael Libal, German Ambassador in Prague. For their generous support we thank the Ministry of Culture of The Czech Republic, the Czech-German Fund for the Future and Bank Leu.
